Care and Maintenance
We have developed a subtle matte finish that we like for our boxes. The finish consists of a layer of shellac to seal the wood fibers and a coat of hand rubbed wax to nurture the wood. These boxes are built to last and patina over time. That being said, the finish is not bulletproof and they are not scratch proof. Water marks will appear without the use of a protective coaster.
If you want to maintain their original luster, take appropriate care (like, use a coaster), and consider refreshing the wax as you see fit. We use Daddy Van's All Natural Beeswax & Lavender with Sweet Orange Oil Furniture Polish. You can get it online. When we need to clean our boxes at home, we use a damp cloth with a mild solution of water and natural soap or vinegar.
